DIT Business and Management Students Pitch for Success

3rd Year Business and Management students showcase their entrepreneurial skills as they pitch their business ideas to some of Ireland's most respected business leaders.

Invited to judge the competition for the 3rd year Business and Management entrepreneurship class were Sean Gallagher- Irish entrepreneur and businessman, Ian Murphy - Head of Collateral Management & Securitisations, KBC Bank Ireland plc and Deborah Lawless- Innovation Engagement Manager, Ulster Bank.

'The New Venture Creation module as part of the BSc in Business and Management is heavily orientated towards experiential learning' states Professor Thomas Cooney, lecturer in Entrepreneurship at DIT College of Business. 'A part of the module, students generate a business idea and analyse it using the Business Model canvas, the business idea is then developed into a full Business Plan to include detailed financial projections. Students are also encouraged to enter their business ideas to the Enterprise Ireland Student Entrepreneur Competition which is open to all HEI students on the island of Ireland.'

In true Dragon's Den style, students were given three minutes to showcase their idea to the judges, the students were commended by Ian Murphy on the quality, depth and detail of their pitches and the obvious application of their learnings. Mr Murphy announced the winners with Join-In coming first place, Glory Gun in second and Strapped as their favourite business ideas.

To conclude, Irish entrepreneur and businessman Sean Gallagher gave the students an inspirational talk on entrepreneurship and a sneak preview of his new book 'Secrets to Success: Inspiring Stories from Leading Entrepreneurs which is released this Summer.
