Experience:

Having worked in human resource management and training/education positions in a variety of state, commercial and not-for-profit companies, Dr. Sue Mulhall is now lecturing in the Dublin Institute of Technology. She is a pracademic, combining theory and practice, particularly in the field of career management. Prior to joining DIT to lecture in Human Resource Development and Leadership in 2012, she ran her own human resource training, consulting and coaching business for over a decade and previously was a human resource practitioner for 13 years. Drawing on her wide range of experience, Sue researched her doctorate in career success. She offers fresh insights to undergraduate and postgraduate students as a result of her exposure to the dilemmas and challenges facing knowledge workers, human resource practitioners and managers in dynamic organisations in the contemporary workplace.

Teaching Interests:

Career management; employee learning and development; international human resource management; employee resourcing; leadership development; and professional development.

Research Interests:

Sue’s international award winning doctorate explored the stories of career success from participants on an active labour market programme in Ireland, called Community Employment. Her current research interests include using narrative inquiry to examine how personal transitions can potentially trigger processes of critical self-reflection, thus having material consequences for a person’s evaluation of his or her career experiences.

Awards

Presented with the winner’s prize for the 2012 Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral

Research Award in the Human Resource Management category.

Received an Abbest scholarship from DIT to complete doctoral studies on a full-time

basis from January 2009 to December 2010.
