Enterprise Ireland, The Arthur Ryan Retail Centre and Dublin Institute of Technology are pleased to advise you that the a new trend forecast presentation  covering the areas of Environments/Living/Homewares for Spring Summer 2016 is being held on Thursday 27th November, will be presented by Janet Holbrook, representing Peclers Paris and Holbrook Studio London, to include the following:

 

SPRING SUMMER 2016: This directional presentation will look at four new inspiring lifestyles and inspirational ways to renew and create on-trend products.

 

COLOUR 2016

Alongside the big picture of the living trends, the presentation will also look more closely at the general colour moods for the season, together with the key finishes and surface treatments.

 

The presentation will cover all the areas put into a Lifestyle context with a special emphasis on colour and print direction, finishes and key products.

 

The Workshop participation fee will be €200.00 (VAT exempt) per group, with a maximum of 6 participating delegates per group.

DIT fashion buying postgraduate students travel to Heriot-Watt University’s School of Textiles and Design in Galashiels, Scotland to partake on an intensive materials and fabrics programme. The itinerary included garment assembly demonstrations and sewing workshops along with field trips to various textile mills across the Scottish borders to include Barrie Knitwear, recently acquired by French fashion house, Chanel.

The Vodafone DIT Fashion Show once again takes Vicar Street, Dublin by storm. The extravaganza has been running for 10 years and never fails to disappoint. This year’s theme was House of Chaos: A Twisted Tale. The show is entirely run by DIT students and is supported by many Irish fashion gurus including Irish Independent and Weekend Magazine Fashion Editor, Bairbre Power; television presenter, Brendan Courtney; fashion blogger, Darren Kennedy, and fashion stylist, Maria Fusco.

DIT fashion buying group travelled to Paris for a busy field trip to include a trend-forecasting project at Premiere Vision, and an excellent workshop on luxury branding delivered by Dr Delphine Dion at IAE de Paris, the Sorbonne University’s Graduate Business School. This was followed by a necessary excursion through the stunning shopping districts of Paris to explore the exquisite Parisian store and retailing environments.

Launch of the ‘Arthur Ryan Retail Centre’ recognises the contribution of Penneys/Primark founder to retail innovation. The new centre for Retail Excellence is established in Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), with funding from the Garfield Weston Foundation. The Garfield Weston Foundation was established by the Weston family, whose business interests include a majority stake in Associated British Foods, which in turn is home to the international retailer Primark, trading as Penneys in Ireland.

ARRC takes a presentation stand at the IrishBizParty Inspire Conference

The Arthur Ryan Retail Centre is delighted to support the innovative IrishBizParty Inspire Conference at the Green Isle Conference & Leisure Hotel at Newlands Cross, Dublin on 30 April 2014. The aim of the conference is to bring all interested SMEs and start ups under the one roof to assist one another, share ideas and make new connections. The concept is the inspiration of Samantha Kelly (aka Tweeting Goddess). Through her #IrishBizParty hashtag she has successfully connected hundreds of Irish SMEs on Twitter. Dr Dee Duffy of ARRC centre presents research at American Marketing Association Winter Conference in Orlando, Florida

Dr Dee Duffy of the Arthur Ryan Retail Centre is invited to present her research at the American Marketing Association Winter Conference in Orlando, Florida. The paper, 'Exploring Customer Contexts: How a communitarian business model enables meaningful customer relationships' proposes corporate brands (in particular fashion brands) incorporate a social purpose into their business practices and ethos in order to create meaningful communities for young consumers.

Fashion Buying study trip to Neoma Business School in Paris
February 2014

Our new cohort of fashion buying students kickstart their one year intensive postgraduate studies programme with a trip to Paris in February. Along with a visit to the world renowned fabric show, Premiere Vision, students also attend a half day workshop at the NEOMA Business School in Paris to learn more about luxury branding in emerging markets. The group are hosted by Nacima Ourahmoune, Associate Professor in Branding and Consumer Research at NEOMA.

Tuesday 12th November: "One Hundred Years of Fashion Design 1900-2000.  Key designers of the Twentieth Century" with Sara Donaldson. Sara is a lecturer in history of fashion and history of art and design and Griffith College Dublin.

Fashion E-tailing seminar with Taryn Casey

Fashion E-tailing seminars with Taryn Casey at DIT's School of Retail & Services Management. Taryn runs her own digital marketing consultancy, taryncasey.com. Along with her work on brands with global giants such as The Coca-Cola Company, Nokia and Diageo, Taryn has mentored and coached start-ups and SMEs in Ireland and the UK. Since developing, running and then successfully selling on her own e-commerce web business in 2006, she now works on both client and agency side helping clients to understand and then harness the power of consumer engagement online. Subject areas covered over the two days will include: 5 key themes for successful fashion etailing, case studies, E-commerce best practice, user experience, and maximising conversion rates.

Sonya Lennon discusses her new technology start-up company Frockadvisor with DIT fashion buying students

Designer, Broadcaster, Stylist and Tech Start Up Co-Founder, Sonya Lennon discusses her new technology start-up company 'Frockadvisor' with DIT fashion buying students this month at the Arthur Ryan Retail Centre, DIT Aungier Street. Sonya has 25 yrs experience in the fashion industry. The founding of Dress for Success Dublin led to Sonya receiving the Arthur Guinness Fund Award 2012. Sonya is now co-founder of a technology start-up company with her collaborator and business partner Brendan Courtney. 'Frockadvisor' is a social discovery platform with ecommerce functionality for fashion retail. 'Frockadvisor' is currently in development through launchpad NDRC. She will discuss the development process of this recent venture and how it will operate.

National Tailoring Academy established with support from Arthur Ryan Retail Centre at DIT and Louis Copeland & Sons
June 2013

Ireland’s first-ever National Tailoring Academy, which is being established with the support of Louis Copeland & Sons and the Arthur Ryan Retail Centre, is to open its doors in the country’s capital in August. A centre of excellence in tailoring skills, education and best practice, the National Tailoring Academy will offer a varied programme of workshops and postgraduate diploma courses in bespoke fashion tailoring. Taught by international Master Tailors and industry professionals, the prestigious one year Continuous Professional Development (C.P.D.) Diploma in Fashion Tailoring starts in September. The country’s Dublin Institute of Technology (D.I.T) is the awarding body for the full-time diploma course, which includes a study visit to tailoring facilities in Europe.

Dr Edmund O’Callaghan, Head of Department of Retail Management Studies has paper shortlisted for publication

Congratulations to Dr Edmund O’Callaghan whose paper entitled “Internal Brand Commitment, a multi-dimensional construct? Case Study Evidence within a Collaborative Independent Retail Network Context” has been shortlisted for best paper at the 17th International Conference on Research in the Distributive Trades of the European Association of Education and Research in Commercial Distribution (EAERCD). Dr O’Callaghan’s paper will be published in the forthcoming issue of the International Review of Retail Distribution and Consumer Research.
