Appointment New Lecturer in Organic Chemistry

The School is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Gráinne Hargaden to the staff as a lecturer in organic chemistry. Gráinne completed her primary degree in chemistry at University College Dublin in 2003 and her PhD under the supervision of Professor Pat Guiry at UCD.  Her PhD research focussed on the development of new oxazoline-containing ligands for application in the enantioselective Nozaki-Hiyama-Kishi allylation of aldehydes.

In 2006 she was a visiting researcher in the group of Professor Pier Giorgio Cozzi at the University of Bologna investigating novel chromium-catalysed additions to aldehydes. In 2007 she moved to the UK as a postdoctoral research associate in the group of Professor Timothy Donohoe at the Chemistry Research Laboratory, University of Oxford where she worked in the area of natural product synthesis.  She was also a tutor in organic chemistry at Magdalen College from 2007-2010.
