Kathryn Young (Kathy) obtained her Diploma in Environmental Health at DIT and was awarded first place in her final examination. She then obtained a B.A in Economics at U.C.D and followed this with a Masters degree in Environmental Science from Trinity College Dublin. Her thesis was a Statistical Analysis of Aluminium levels in Dublins Drinking Water completed under the supervision of Dr. Nick Gray. She has a postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Impact Assessment from the University of Aberdeen and in Environment Development and Control from DIT Bolton street.

Before joining DIT as a lecturer in Environmental Health in 1991 Kathy had over 9 years experience in Environmental Health with the former Eastern Health Board a period of which was at senior level. She shared a platform with Professor Emer Colleran U.C.G and Dr. Yvonne Scannell Trinity College on environmental management and has also advised private industry on environmental health issues including Guinness Ireland.

Kathy now lectures on the BSc Environmental Health and associated Masters courses combining her academic and professional experience in Environmental Health, Risk Management, Environmental Management, Environmental Health Education/ Promotion

  • Waste Management : Risk Perception and Communication Among Transition Year Students.
  • Waste Treatment Options For Brewery Wastes.

Completed Research Supervision

Use of Geographic Information Systems as a Risk Management tool in Environmental Epidemiology. MPhil degree.
