Mr. Justice Nial Fennelly launches new book 'European Community Tourism Law and Policy' by DIT Lecturer Marc McDonald

The Honourable Mr. Justice Nial Fennelly of the Supreme Court recently launched 'European Community Tourism Law and Policy' written by Marc McDonald, lecturer in the Faculty of Tourism and Food in the Dublin Institute of Technology.

For many years the range of Community impacts on tourism has been steadily increasing over a range of areas like competition, consumer protection, environment, free movement, transport and regional development. 'European Community Tourism Law and Policy' is the first book in Europe to specifically address how the legal activities of the Community impact on European tourism.

Law plays a central role in the tourism life of the European Community. In recent times, interest in tourism has grown in tandem with the increasing economic, recreational and environmental importance of tourism.

Introducing the book Marc McDonald states:

'European Community Tourism Law and Policy' is the first book to recognise this trend at European Community level. It provides a clear, comprehensive and non-technical account of how tourism law and policy operate over many of the main areas of Community competence in tourism.

Key features of the book include extensive quotes from Community sources, a clear account of community laws affecting tourism and a focus on case studies from the tourism industry to illustrate significant points.

Contributors to the book include academics from Denmark, the Netherlands and Spain.

'European Community Tourism Law and Policy' will be useful for policy makers, national and regional tourism authorities, industry representatives and professionals, and tourism and legal academics and students.
