SEVERE ACUTE RESPIRATORY SYNDROME (SARS)

TRAVEL ADVICE

You will undoubtedly be aware of the concern which has been generated by incidences of the SARS virus internationally. We would like to draw your attention to the most up-to-date information which is currently available to ensure that DIT staff and students are not exposed to any unnecessary risk.

If you have recently visited or had a stopover in any of the following areas:

  • China (Guangdong, Shanxi, Taiwan Province)
  • Hong Kong (Special Administrative Region of China)
  • Singapore
  • Hanoi in Viet Nam
  • Toronto in Canada

And you have any of the following symptoms:

  • High fever (>38 C) and
  • Cough, and /or shortness of breath, and/or difficulty breathing

Or have been in close contact with any possible cases of SARS

Most people, who develop such symptoms, even if they have been to the affected areas, have simple respiratory infections from which a full recovery is usual.
