HEA Action Plan for widening Access to higher education

The Minister for Education and Science, Ms Mary Hanafin TD, recently launched the "HEA Action Plan 2005-07 for Widening Access to Higher Education"  The document calls on universities and institutes of technology in Ireland to provide the HEA with feedback on the plan and also to review their own processes and targets in this regard.

To initiate a meaningful discussion in DIT on this important topic, an event will take place on Thursday 20 January 2005 in the Seminar Room, Focas Institute, DIT Camden Row at 2 pm.  The event, which is organised by DIT's Lifelong Educational Access Programme (LEAP), Disability Service and Lifelong Learning, will identify the key points in the plan for Higher Education institutions, and will then address the key action points for DIT.

The programme for this important event is as follows:

  • 2.00 pm:  Welcome by Professor Brian Norton, President
  • 2.10 pm:  HEA Action PlanKey points presented
    by Orla Christle, National Office for Equity of Access to Higher Educaton                         
  • 2.40 pm:  DIT response Key action points for DIT presented by
    Julie Bernard, LEAP; Pat Hoey, Disability Service; and Jen Harvey, Lifelong Learning
  • 3.10 pm:  Tea/coffee break
  • 3.15 pm:  Workshop sessionsDiscussion of ways for DIT to achieve the key action points
  • 4.00 pm:  Plenary resumes
  • 4.15 pm:  Event concludes with a wine reception
