storyDITArtsGraduateExhibition

21st May 2009:  The programme for the Dublin Institute of Technology Graduate Arts Exhibition 2009 was officially launched tonight at a reception in the Irish Film Institute in Temple Bar. The DIT exhibition is the most wide-ranging graduate exhibition of its kind and includes work from final-year students of fine art, visual communications, interior and furniture design, design as well as music and drama. Exhibitions and performances take place in a number of venues across Dublin city centre, with recitals taking place every night this week and next week, and exhibitions opening from Tuesday 08 June and running through to June 20th in some cases.

Speaking at the programme launch, Ms Brid Grant, Director of the Faculty of Applied Arts at DIT said the diversity of works being displayed and performed over the next couple of weeks is a reminder of the wide range of educational disciplines with which DIT is involved. “While some people may know DIT for its strengths in engineering, science or business, the Institute has also been to the forefront of arts education in this country. The media and cultural industries are an area of excellence in Ireland and the Faculty of Applied Arts at DIT provides opportunities for students to develop both their practice and their theoretical understanding in their field. The end-of-year exhibition is the culmination of a lot of hard work by the students and I would like to congratulate them for their distinctive and eye-catching work.’ Colleagues are warmly invited to attend the recitals and to view the exhibitions - click here to see some examples from each exhibition:

At the launch, each of the Heads of School in Media, the Conservatory of Music and Drama, and Art, Design and Printing took the opportunity to outline recent developments in their Schools, including new appointments; new programmes and recent achievements. After the speeches, Ms Grant introduced the Vanbrugh quartet to play for guests. The Quartet have recently joined the staff of the Conservatory as lecturers of Chamber Music.
