Robin Blandford receives his IQ Prize

9th July 2009

Hothouse Venture Programme participant Robin Blandford, Decisions for Heroes has won the €10,000 iQ Prize for the Best Internet Start-up in Ireland. The competition attracted 250 entries from which 8 ambitious start-ups were shortlisted and took part in Dragon's Den style presentations to a panel of 6 judges. After their presentations, the 8 shortlisted candidates presented their elevator pitches to an audience of 200 guests in the Guinness StoreHouse.

Decisions for Heroes is a global web service aimed at helping rescue teams make better life-saving decisions. Founded by young Irish entrepreneur Robin Blandford, Decisions For Heroes helps rescue teams ’save more lives‘. Identifying a common set of problems found in emergency services, the software was created to capture the information surrounding their rescue operations and training exercises. The system automatically performs analytical charting, draws heatmaps, and benchmarks reports to outline areas of strength, weakness, and expertise.

Robin plans to use the prize fund to travel to the United States with an aim to launch official trials with their emergency services, while back home in Dublin he’ll grow the company by taking on an operations expert, who will focus on data security, availability and scalability.

The iQ Prize was the brainchild of Morgan McKeagney, CEO, iQ Content who himself was a participant on the first ever Hothouse Venture Programme. In March the company launched the iQ Prize with a grand prize of €10,000 for the best business plan from an Irish internet start-up. The judging panel for the competition comprised Google, Facebook and Microsoft Daft, Statcounter and LouderVoice.
