DIT’s seventh eLearning Summer School was launched on Monday June 22nd by DIT’s Director of Academic Affairs Dr. Frank McMahon. The theme this year is “Get flexible: Moving to an online environment” and the programme has been designed to be very hands-on: participants are expected to complete the week with the basic elements of an online module in place.

Convened by DIT’s Learning, Teaching and Technology Centre, with the support of Staff Training and Development, the week-long event provides an opportunity for people working in education to become familiar with the tools and strategies necessary to create a successful online course, exchange ideas with colleagues, discuss issues relevant to eLearning, technology and broader issues of education. Each day focuses on a different aspect of eLearning and includes sessions devoted to eAssessment, ePortfolios, Podcasting, Second Life, Mobile Learning, and Web2.0 technologies. The participants will also get a chance to speak with Dr. Kay McKeogh of Oscail/DCU, as well as staff from the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, Durban University of Technology, South Africa, via a live link.

In addition to participants from DIT, we are delighted to welcome colleagues from NCI, IT Tallaght, IT Blanchardstown, GMIT, Waterford IT, Cork IT, DCU, NCAD, the Garda College Templemore, the Irish Payroll Association, and St. Angela’s College Sligo. We look forward to an interesting, challenging and exciting week.
