'Upskill at DIT' Career and Education Information Clinic
Wednesday April 22nd 3.30 – 7.30, DIT Aungier Street, Dublin 2

20th March 2009

Upskill at DIT

'Upskill at DIT' is an information 'clinic' for anyone who wants to update their qualifications, add new qualifications or change career direction.

It came about through members of staff DIT contributing ideas as to how the Institute can assist those who may have become unemployed, or who feel they need to add to their skills to secure their current or future employment prospects.

There will be information and advice for virtually anyone considering their options including:

  • mature students, whether they are returning to learning or are considering going to college for the first time
  • graduates, or final year third level students who are considering postgraduate programmes or research
  • students who might have hoped to enter an apprenticeship but who have no employer/sponsor and wish to gain an alternative qualification
  • people who are currently employed but would like to gain additional qualifications on a part-time basis
  • starting your own business

In addition to information stands on specific topics and for specific groups, there will also be a series of short talks (20 minutes) on a range of useful topics including:

  • careers advice for people who have recently become unemployed
  • talks on how experience in the workplace can translate into ‘recognition of prior learning’ and can qualify you for course exemptions or advanced entry to degree programmes
  • study skills and time management advice
  • short talks by lecturers who can put programmes in context so you can see where a particular course might lead in employment terms
  • entrepreneurship and starting your own business
