DIT signs Memorandum of Understanding with Bord Gáis Networks

On Friday 9th April 2010, Dr. Mike Murphy, Director of the College of Engineering and Built Environment at DIT, and Mr. John Barry, Managing Director, Bord Gáis Networks, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between DIT and Bord Gáis Networks. Under the agreement, both organisations will collaborate to develop a strategic relationship involving programme accreditation, training programme development and delivery, research collaboration, student placement and trainer development.

The signing took place at Bord Gáis Networks Technical Training Centre in Finglas and marked the culmination of very positive discussions between the two organisations.  Speaking at the event, both Dr. Murphy and Mr. Barry welcomed the agreement and looked forward to the development of strong and fruitful relationship.

Bord Gáis Networks, a division of Bord Gáis, builds and operates the natural gas networks in Ireland, mainly on behalf of Gaslink.  It also owns and operates significant gas pipeline assets in Northern Ireland.  Bord Gáis Networks is also responsible for new gas connections and for work on service pipes and meters at customers’ premises.  It manages a full 24-hour emergency response service and handles over 20,000 call-outs a year.

A Memorandum of Agreement was also signed under which Bord Gáis Networks will participate in a Corporate Partnership Pilot Programme which has been developed to offer an organised framework for DIT and industry/professions to develop mutually beneficial relationships through a better understanding of each others environments.

Attending the agreement signing from Bord Gáis Networks were; Mr. John Barry, Networks Managing Director, Mr. David Hughes, Enterprise Risk Manager, Mr. Liam Nolan, Head of Health, Safety, Quality and Environment, Mr. Kevin Kellet, Training Coordinator, Mr. Owen Wilson, Head of Safety and Ms. Sarah Buckley, Accreditation Coordinator.  Accompanying Dr Mike Murphy from DIT were; Dr. Frank McMahon, Director of Academic Affairs, Mr. David Kirk, Professional Development Services, Mr. Robert Murphy, Professional Development Services and Dr. Brian Bowe, Head of Learning Development, College of Engineering and Built Environment.
