Lord Mayor of Dublin hosts welcome reception for International Students and awards Lord Mayor Scrolls to DIT Graduates

On December 02nd, The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Gerry Breen hosted a welcome reception at the Mansion House to honour international students from all over the world currently studying at third level institutes in the Dublin Region.

Despite the weather the reception was a very warm welcome to all new international students studying in Dublin.
The Lord Mayor especially thanked students for making Dublin their destination of choice for study.
DIT International Students who represented their countries were:
- Irina Loskova - Russia
- Nadia Suhaila Thoka - Malaysia
- Abdulrahman Ibrahim - Lebanon
- Niraj Ladha – Tanzania
- Annette Reichkitzer – USA
- Sarah Al Mousa – Kuwait
- Olzhas Aimukhambetov – Kazakhstan
- Fuqing Zhang – China
As well as getting the chance to meet the Lord Mayor and students from other institutes, students heard about the special history of the Mansion House and Dublin’s status as a UNESCO City of Literature.

Also present were Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, His Excellency, Mr. Mikhail Evgenyevich Timoshkin; Councillor Emer Costello; Director International Relations, Research and Special Projects, Dublin City Council, Peter Finnegan as well as representatives from Third Level Institutes in Dublin.

The Lord Mayor also awarded special Lord Mayor of Dublin Scrolls to DIT Graduates congratulating them on graduating from college and celebrating their contribution to life in Dublin.

Sachin Khokhar from India, BE Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Evgeniya Em from Russia, BSc Event Management were awarded scrolls in absentia.
It is hoped that these special Lord Mayor scrolls will be awarded from next year onwards to all international students graduating in Dublin.
