Two DIT Masters students, Donal O’Meachair and Ian Johnson, organised an unusual event on behalf of AWARE, raising €11,000 for the charity which addresses problems of depression and suicide.  Donal and Ian are students on the MSc in Business and Entrepreneurship, and they undertook the fund-raising challenge as an assignment for their module in ‘New Product Development’, taught by Dr. Tom Cooney.  They came up with the idea of organising a 'White Collar Boxing' Event  in Tripod in Harcourt Street.  Over the ten weeks they gathered volunteer’boxers’’ from all walks of life, from business owners to Google IT consultants and trained them in the high performance gym in the national stadium under the tutelage of former Olympic boxer Cathal O’Grady.   Through the publicity that Ian and Donal generated for the event they managed to attract big names like Kenny Egan, Ian Tims, Eric Donovan and Conor Ahern.   The goal of their assignment was to demonstrate social entrepreneurship and the outstanding result was the presentation of a cheque for €11,000 to AWARE.
