Date: Friday, December 16th 2011

Time: 12.30pm - 1.15pm

These are tough times for students and their families. Many are struggling with increases in the cost of education against a backdrop of shrinking family incomes. DIT Campus Life has seen a significant increase in the number of students seeking support, for example there has been a 20% increase in the number of students seeking financial aid. Indeed all of the DIT Campus Life supports services are seeing an increase in students seeking support and advice in these tough times. DIT Campus Life is committed to ensuring that each and every DIT student is provided with the support and care that they need to succeed during their time here at DIT.

In light of these circumstances DIT has invited leading clinical psychologist and author, Marie Murray, to DIT to deliver a talk to students and staff entitled ‘Supporting Students through challenging times’.  This lunchtime talk will take place on Friday, December 16th from 12.30pm -1.15pm in DIT Aungier Street.

According to Brian Gormley, Manager of Campus Life at DIT;  “Increasingly, academic and administrative staff are encountering students who are in severe financial difficulty, and very often this is affecting students’ physical and emotional health.  The aim of this event is to give DIT staff and students some practical advice on how to ensure that students get all the support possible.” Staff and Students who are familiar with Marie’s RTE ‘Drive- Time’ pieces will be aware of Marie’s positive outlook and her emphasis on the importance of looking out for one another. We hope through the talk Marie will provide some useful advice on how best we can as a community support each other through difficult times.

The talk is open to all staff and students across DIT.
