DIT wins International award in the MacJannet Prize for Global Citizenship

7th April 2011

We are delighted to announce that Dublin Institute of Technology has won a MacJannet prize for global citizenship.  DIT is honoured to be selected, from across the world, as one of eight winners of the MacJannet Prize .  The prize, awarded by the Taillories Network, an international association of third-level institutions committed to championing civic engagement in higher education, recognises exceptional student civic engagement initiatives based in Talloires Network member universities around the world.

This year the Talloires Network received 75 nominations for the MacJannet Prize from 59 universities in 26 countries. The finalists represented universities from every continent across the world and included countries like South Africa, US, Pakistan, Mexico, UK, Sudan, Australia, Chile, Argentina, Palestine, Trinidad and Tobago, Spain, Canada and Hong Kong.

According to the Talloires Network the Selection Committee was highly impressed by the quality and scope of all of the programs. The winning nominations were selected on the following criteria - student leadership, university support, community partnership and involvement, demonstrated positive impact on the community, demonstrated positive impact on the participating students, and sustainability.

DIT received the award for its hugely successful Community Links Programme which is a multi-stranded programme targeting educational disadvantage in the primary, secondary, tertiary and community educational sector.

Congratulations to all students and staff involved in DIT’s Community Links Programme for earning this prestigious and notable designation.   DIT will receive its award at a special Award Ceremony in Madrid in June 2011.
