New editor and editorial team for DIT News

7th December 2011: DIT News Soc is delighted to announce their new editor and editorial team for this coming year and look forward to providing all students of DIT with a quality independent student newspaper.

Luc O Cinnseala, a recent graduate from DIT's Journalism and French course is this years Editor in Chief,

"I am delighted to have been selected as the editor of DIT's student newspaper and look forward to working closely with everybody involved to lead an enjoyable and creative society. I have already been struck by the immense enthusiasm of the News Soc members and committee and will strive to channel this enthusiasm into producing an award-winning publication. The challenges and rewards of the next few months are something I am very excited about and I will do my utmost to assist in earning DIT the creative recognition it deserves at Smedia level."

Stephanie Costello, a 2nd Year Journalism student is the Chairperson of the News Society and Deputy Editor of the newspaper:

"This year will see many positive changes for the news society and the newspaper as a whole. As chairperson of News Soc, I hope to push the society towards a new level of recognition, offering practical workshops and tutorials for all our members whilst always placing an onus on the delivery of a peerless publication. As deputy editor I look forward to working closely with Luc and our passionate bunch of section editors in delivering a standard of newspaper that has not yet been seen in DIT. Students across all 6 DIT campuses can expect a fearless publication with intrepid reporting, breaking major stories whilst always keeping the DIT students in mind."

This year the paper is being mentored by Fiona Hynes a graduate from DIT .Fiona Hynes has been a journalist for nine years. She graduated from Dublin Institute of Technology with a BA in Journalism in 2002.

She was appointed News Editor with The Irish Daily Star Sunday in 2006 before returning to The Irish Daily Star as a senior news reporter in 2011. She is also co-author of Irish crime book, Slain Abroad, which was published in 2011.We are always looking for new contributors to join our team, so if you have a story or would like to get involved in the newspaper, please email us at news@socs.dit.ie
