The DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama and the University of Connecticut have been working together for over a year with a view to collaborating in music performance, joint seminars, and with the possibility of producing joint or dual degrees. It is proven that collaboration of this nature enriches the experience of both students and staff from all institutions involved.

One member of faculty in UConn is already well-known to DIT – Professor Karen Ryker came to DIT as a Fulbright Scholar two years ago and during her time here directed the highly-acclaimed production of The Magic Flute. In January 2006 a group of singers and staff from the Conservatory visited UConn and, following a week’s rehearsal, presented a joint concert of opera scenes.

A Night at the Opera sees a return visit by students and staff from UConn and represents another step in the development of this partnership with the presentation of scenes from Die Fledermaus, The Marriage of Figaro, L’Elisir d’Amore, Cosi fan Tutte, Candide, and Lakmé.
