Over 150 people gathered at the Department of Law in DIT last night to discuss the ramifications of the recent Ruiz Zambrano decision of the Court of Justice in Luxembourg which will have far-reaching consequences for immigration law in Ireland and across the EU. Dr. Stephen Carruthers, Dr. Elaine Fahey and Dr. Fergus Ryan, all of the Department of Law, assessed the impact of the decision on European Union law, Immigration law and Constitutional law in Ireland.

Speaking at the event last night, Bruce Carolan, Head of Law at DIT, said that he was "pleased to see such a large group of people taking an interest in this important decision". Dr. Elaine Fahey, DIT Law lecturer and organiser of the event, stated that "the broad range of challenges posed for Member State Governments by the Zambrano decision, particularly Ireland, explains the importance of reflection on its impact".

Dr. Fahey is the author of a new book entitled EU Law in Ireland to be launched on May 10 in DIT by Ms Lucinda Creighton, TD, Minister of State for European Affairs.
