2014 IrelandSkills National Competition takes place this week at DIT

Aircraft mechanic Joe Kelly who won Ireland’s third gold medal in a row (and DIT’s third gold medal in a row) for aircraft maintenance at the World Skills Competition earlier this year

09 December 2013: The 2014 IrelandSkills National Competition is taking place this week at several locations, including DIT centres.

The competition, which runs until Friday, covers 10 key skills areas including:

1.         Aircraft Maintenance @ Airport Ind Estate

2.         Autobody Repair – DIT Beresford Street

3.         Brickwork – DIT Linenhall

4.         Cabinet Making – Dun Laoghaire Further Education Institute

5.         Car Painting – DIT Beresford Street

6.         Heavy Vehicle Mechanics – DIT Beresford Street

7.         Plumbing - DIT Linenhall

8.         Polymechanic Automation – DIT Bolton Street

9.         Sheet metal Work – DIT Linenhall

10.       For the first time ever, the skill area of Visual Merchandising is part of the competition and will be held at the DIT Mountjoy Square campus.

The opening ceremony took place on Monday 9 December in the Gresham Hotel and the awards ceremony takes place this Friday 13 December in the ballroom of the same hotel.

Competition times for visitors are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning.
