Digital marketing students work on live project with CarTrawler

03 December 2013: Second year digital marketing students from DIT have teamed up with the company CarTrawler to work on a live project.

The students from the DT341-2 degree in marketing are analysing online user behaviour and are running experiments and analytics with real company data.

The students are learning how to use marketing analytics with the company’s sophisticated software.

Joe Farinella, Director of Marketing with the company sees this as an exciting project for the students. He said, “They are gaining valuable insight into cutting edge digital marketing practices that have immediate influence in terms of sales lift.”

Agata Osinska, Head of Conversion at CarTrawler, said, “This 12 week project is mutually beneficial to all participants. CarTrawler is gaining fresh insight and creative ideas from DIT’s digital savvy students and in return, CarTrawler is providing the students with a rich learning environment and an opportunity to utilise their creative and analytical skills using real data.”

Roger Sherlock, Head of Department of Marketing Studies at DIT, said the skillset, networks and learning through such collaborative projects as this one are of enormous benefit to DIT marketing students and staff.

Lecturers working with the student teams have seen the direct benefits of such projects. Mary Lawlor, lecturer in digital marketing, said that working with the company on an exciting digital marketing project for 12 weeks has allowed students to acquire a rapid understanding of digital concepts and skills.

Donncha Ryan, lecturer in marketing analytics, said the initiative was a valuable and mutually beneficial relationship between all stakeholders – students, staff and industry partners.
