15 July 2013: DIT is commencing a new MSc Event Management degree this September.

The course, run by the School of Hospitality Management and Tourism, is the only Masters in Event Management in the Republic.

The course is one-year full-time with a second intake in January and may be also taken in flexible modular format.

Alex Gibson, Assistant Head of School, said, “This degree is primarily aimed at those who have an undergraduate degree in non-cognate disciplines but who see themselves pursuing a career in the broad events sector. It will also be attractive to those with experience in the sector, but who may wish to build a formal qualification in the area.”

The events sector spans a huge variety of areas offering significant career opportunities; from international sports tournaments, to locally held festivals; from charity fundraising to international association congresses. The events sector is critical for both public and private bodies in building rapport with a huge variety of audiences.

The new Masters programme offers four core modules:

  • The Effective Manager
  • Strategic Marketing and Digital Media
  • Managerial Finance and Entrepreneurialism
  • Emerging Issues in Events

In addition, specialist modules are offered in Event Planning and Operations Management and International Events Management.

Students will also complete a dissertation centred on the events sector.
