All Together Now: Conservatory celebrates 125 years!

Posted: 23 April, 2015

Now in its fifth year, All Together Now is a unique music showcase, featuring the very best of ensemble playing at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama.

This year’s performance at the National Concert Hall on Tuesday 5th May is particularly significant as it celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Conservatory, which dates back to 1890. All Together Now is one of a series of public events planned for 2015 to mark this major milestone.  Over 300 students at every level will perform at All Together Now, from budding musicians age 6 to accomplished performers studying at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The programme opens with DIT Prelude Strings, DIT Sinfonietta, and DIT Junior Choirs, followed by DIT Prelude Winds and a rousing performance by DIT Concert Band.  This will be followed by a number of innovative cross-genre performances drawing upon early jazz, classical, traditional Irish, early music and church music. For example, the DIT Symphony Orchestra, directed by the acclaimed conductor David Brophy, takes to the stage with the DIT Jazz Ensemble directed by renowned jazz guitarist Michael Nielsen.

Next, members of the DIT Irish traditional and early music ensembles team up with the DIT Sinfonia to perform a composition by Odhrán Ó Casaide, Head of the Irish Traditional Music programme at DIT.  This will include classical singers and a sean nós singer performing with orchestral, early music and Irish traditional instrumentalists.   Finally the DIT Wind Ensemble will perform George Gershwin’s much-loved ‘An American in Paris’, a jazz-influenced piece inspired by the composer’s time spent living in Paris in the 1920s.

DIT Conservatory is delighted to welcome back Liz Nolan of RTÉ lyric fm - and herself a former student of the Conservatory - to compère what will be a fantastic evening of music and a fitting 125th birthday celebration
