Students provide consultancy to industry

Posted: 6 May, 2015

This year, students taking the Small Business Management module in their final year of the B.Sc. Business and Management (DT365) programme once again had the opportunity to work with affiliates of Business Networking International (BNI) - a global network of local businesses

Introduced by module leader, Margaret Fitzsimons, the module gives students experience of engaging in a consultancy capacity with industry. Consultancy briefs included issues relating to website design, digital marketing, social media analytics, competitor analyses, HR strategies and funding mechanisms.  At the end of the module, the students presented their research analyses and recommendations to the BNI members at a presentation and awards evening.

BNI - is a networking organisation that provides a structured, supportive, business environment in which local business people can get together to network, learn valuable new marketing skills and develop the strong personal relationships that lead to trust and the consequent generation of significant business for each other.

The BNI members were extremely positive about having the Business and Management students working alongside their businesses, and they congratulated the students on the great work that went into their analysis and presentations.  At the Awards Ceremony, Programme Director Dr. Eoghan O Grady, thanked the client companies for their participation and commitment to the process, Margaret Fitzsimons for leading the initiative, and the consultancy teams of students for the quality of their output and advice – “DT365 prides itself on living the mission that is “Living Learning”. DT365 collaboration with BNI is just one more example of the programme’s proximity to industry. Providing students this opportunity to engage with industry in this manner contributes hugely to their ‘job readiness’ and is a key driver of Dt365’s outstanding graduate placement rate”.
