DIT Prepares for World Skills 2015

DIT again has a strong presence on the Irish team travelling to World Skills 2015, which takes place in August in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Martin and his fellow competitor Shane Magee who will compete in the Industrial Control and Electrical Installations Competitions undergoing training in DIT’s Kevin Street Campus

DIT representatives on the team will include Experts in a number of key areas - Electrical Installations , Paul Marah; Welding, Maurice Collins; Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, Thomas Murphy; and Industrial Control Colm Agnew.  Martin Sneyd, veteran of many World Skills competitions, will attend in his capacity as World Skills Official Delegate. 

WorldSkills has evolved to become a major world Competition and the global benchmark for technical skills.   This year almost 70 nations will take part in more than 50 different skills competitions and demonstrations. DIT will be represented by student of Electrical Engineering, Martin Tully, competing in the Industrial Control section of the Electrical Installation Competition.

A native of Woodford, Co. Galway, Martin began his electrical apprenticeship with the ESB.  On completion of Phase 4 of the Standards Based System, he transferred into full-time study of electrical engineering with the support of his employer.   Martin also has a keen interest in Motor Mechanics and has built his own car from the chassis up!

The WorldSkills Competitions will take place in Sáo Paulo, Brazil from 11 – 16 August.   We wish all the Irish team the best of luck and look forward to welcoming home some medal winners!
