Apply for DIT’s Gaeltacht Scholarships for Staff & Students to spend a week in the Gaeltacht this summer learning and improving your Irish!

Oifig na Gaeilge, DIT’s Irish language office is offering scholarships to DIT staff and students who would like to spend a week in the Gaeltacht on an Irish language course this summer.

Fulltime DIT staff who would like to participate on an Irish language course in the Gaeltacht this summer may apply for the scholarship. The scholarship is worth €175 per person and the days spent on the Gaeltacht course are recognised by Human Resources as training days but you must receive prior permission from your line manager to attend any course. The Gaeltacht courses take place in Co. Donegal, Galway, the Aran Islands, Kerry and Waterford over the summer months.

Fulltime DIT students can apply for a scholarship to attend an Irish language course with Oideas Gael in Southwest Donegal for a week any time from the 4th June until the end of August for only €50! The Oifig na Gaeilge scholarships will cover the tuition fees and the cost of self-catering accommodation and students only have to pay €50 and their travel and food expenses.

The Gaeltacht courses are available from Complete Beginners level – for those who have never studied the language; Improvers who want to brush up on their Gaeilge and for fluent speakers who want to improve their grammar and enrich their vocabulary with classes taking place during the day and Gaeilge activities running every evening.

To date over 200 DIT staff and students have attended courses in the Gaeltacht and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have noted a major improvement in their Irish.

All the information on the Scholarship Scheme is available here and you can apply online.
