New pitches at Grangegorman ready to play

The DIT Sports and Recreation team is ready to welcome students back to campus next month and in particular they are looking forward to meeting the new sportsmen and women who will be coming to join Team DIT this year!

According to John O'Carroll, Sports Facilities and Development Manager at DIT, the new grass pitches on the Grangegorman campus will also be ready.  "We are really looking forward to hosting training and matches for GAA, Soccer and Rugby this year on the new pitches.  The all-weather pitch has been in use throughout the last academic year but from the week beginning 12 September we plan to hold team trials on Pitch 1, the new grass pitch for soccer and rugby; and on Pitch 2, the full GAA size grass pitch.  Pitch 3, the all-weather pitch, will be back in use too, as will the tennis courts on Pitch 4."

Sport is big in DIT!  DIT Sports and Recreation cater for a wide range of interests and all levels of ability.  Students have over 40 sports clubs to choose from, and can also participate in yoga, dance and fitness classes, so whether you want to participate in competitive or non-competitive activity there is something for everyone from beginners through to elite athletes.

On-campus fitness facilities

DIT students have access to gym facilities on campus, including three Fit2Go clubs at Kevin Street (which includes a swimming pool); Bolton Street and Grangegorman.  All have fully equipped gyms, with the latest exercise equipment for cardiovascular, strength and conditioning.  Fitness classes including new Kettlebell, TRX and Spin classes are provided by highly trained personnel.  The 18 metre, 4 lane swimming pool in Kevin Street ranges from 0.75m to 2m in depth and swim classes are offered at all levels.  All Fit2Go facilities are staffed by professionally trained sports officers who can carry out fitness tests and can develop an individual training programme for a student.

Outdoor sports at Grangegorman and Broombridge

Since 2015/16, DIT teams have been able to return to the renewed outdoor sports facilities at Grangegorman.  An all-weather pitch, training pitch and three tennis courts have been opened to both DIT teams and local clubs.  There is also a 1km jog track around the fields and a multi-use games area has been available for basketball and other sport.  There are also outdoor table tennis tables.

DIT has also acquired an additional sports ground at Broombridge, which is close to Grangegorman.  A fantastic all-weather, floodlit full GAA-sized pitch - or 2 soccer pitches - has been laid and will be available to DIT teams and local clubs later this year.  This facility will provide more scope for field sports teams and class groups.

DIT also provides a range of activities in partnership with a number of excellent public and private facility providers in close proximity to the institute’s city wide campuses.
