DIT Conservatory to present Handel’s ‘Susanna’

Posted: 18 January, 2017

DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama will present a staged production of Handel's superb work Susanna in The Boys School, Smock Alley Theatre on Friday 03 February and Saturday 04 February at 7.30 pm.

Susanna is a riveting tale of lust, hypocrisy and corruption – vividly conveyed in Handel’s score.  This staged version will be accompanied in a special arrangement for keyboard, harp, continuo and obbligato instruments.

The historic Smock Alley is a perfect venue for this atmospheric work and the presentation, featuring vocal and orchestral students of the Conservatory, promises to be an evening of exciting drama and beautiful music.

The story of Susanna tells of the attempted forced seduction of a young woman by two elders of a closed community.  Susanna is sentenced to death for her apparent fall from grace but the day is saved by the young judge Daniel who, in an ingenious process of cross questioning, manages to trick the elders into revealing the truth of their crime.

Tickets €15 (concessions €8) – 01 677 0014
