DIT Student, Ronan Marah SEEE Winner of the IET (Ireland) competition

DIT student Ronan Marah has won the IET ‘Present around the World’ award for his paper entitled ‘Enhancing energy savings by using technologies to implement good lighting when upgrading systems”.

Ronan, a final year electrical engineering student in DIT, was one of three finalists in the competition which offers the chance to final year undergraduate students and Young Engineers between the ages of 18 and 30 to develop their presentation skills on a national and international stage by presenting on engineering or a technology related topic. Providing tough competition for Ronan, the two other finalists and their papers were:

David Linehan a young engineer with Eirgrid with his paper titled: “Europe’s future power system; What will it look like?”

Shaun Sweeney a masters student from UCD with his paper titled; “Services that electric bikes can provide in SMART cities”

IET - the Institution of Engineering and Technology - is one of the world’s leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community, with more than 150,000 members in 127 countries and offices in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific. The IET Ireland Network hosts events, lectures and site visits throughout Ireland each year. These events offer members and non-members an opportunity to network and interact with others across their industry and allow them to keep up to speed with new developments spanning various engineering and technology-based sectors. IET provides both a local and global knowledge network to facilitate the exchange of ideas and promote the positive role of science, engineering and technology in the world.

The IET Ireland Network finals took place in the Alexander Hotel in Dublin.  In addition to receiving a cash award from IET, Ronan will now go on to represent Ireland at the European regional finals this summer in Dubai.  The world finals will be held in London later this year so congratulations to Ronan and the very best of luck in Dubai and beyond!
