DIT graduate Orla Reynolds to exhibit in MilanPosted: 31 March, 2017
Irish furniture designer and DIT graduate Orla Reynolds has been selected to showcase her designs at SaloneSatellite. 20 Years of New Creativity" in Milan from 04 -25 April.
This will be the third time for Orla to exhibit in Milan, having been invited to do so in 2015 and 2016 also. However, for this special exhibition, only a small number of companies have been included so it is particularly prestigious.
Entitled “As if from nowhere…”, Orla’s showpiece is inspired by theatre and scene changes. Her modular bookcase houses four dining chairs and two tables which, when placed together, form a dining table. It is intended for small living spaces or to cater for an unexpected guest. The collection was first featured in the international online design and architecture magazine, Dezeen. The video demonstrating the collection was voted in the top 10 design videos of 2012 and the collection has been voted number one in space saving design by websites such as Buzzfeed. It has appeared in numerous publications worldwide and has been exhibited many times in showcases around Ireland.
In addition to being an award-winning designer, Orla trained as a professional ballet dancer before an injury ended her career and she returned to study furniture design in the DIT School of Creative Arts, graduating with a first class honours degree. The inspiration for her design comes from choreography and performance.
