The programme, the first of its kind in Ireland, provides the fastest route for would-be accountants to obtain both an MSc and professional qualification.

To address the needs of employers, the College of Business at DIT and CPA Ireland undertook extensive consultation with employers, students and academics. The result is a programme designed to produce qualified accountants that are not only technically proficient but also equipped with communication and problem-solving skills that are essential in the workplace.

Upon admission to the programme, students will go directly into a dynamic work placement. For the first two years, each trainee will attend work four days per week and take classes in DIT each Friday.  The final year will see students work full time to obtain their professional CPA qualification, becoming one of the most sought after accountancy professionals in Ireland and one of the million plus CPAs across the world.

Commenting on the launch, Margaret Fitzsimons, Head of the School of Accounting and Finance at DIT said; ''We are honoured to collaborate with CPA Ireland in developing this unique Masters in Applied Accounting. CPA Ireland is renowned for supporting business needs through its internationally recognised qualification and we are delighted to partner with them in creating this programme, which will give students the opportunity to work and study, whilst obtaining a Masters and admission to CPA Ireland as members.''

Speaking of the new course, Deirdre Kiely, CPA Ireland President said; “This Masters in Applied Accountancy is the only combined level 9 Masters Degree and Professional Accounting Programme available in Ireland. There is significant demand for qualified accountants across a range of sectors, so it is a great time to be entering the profession. The exceptional state of the art facilities at DIT and CPA Ireland’s commitment to the support of its students and members ensures the best student experience possible. This new joint qualification gives students an alternative route to be becoming a qualified accountant while addressing the needs of employers.”

Applications for the MSc in Applied Accountancy are currently being accepted now. Successful applicants will then be paired with CPA Approved Employers to ensure valuable work experience. The course will commence on in September 2017.
