Current Positions

Assistant Lecturer in Optometry, DIT. (September 2013-Present)

Short Biography

Since qualifying into the optometry profession in 2008, I have worked in many different optometric practice settings including:

  • High street optometry: Specsavers Opticians Grafton St. 2008-2013; Patrick Moore Opticians Crumlin, Dublin, 2013-2016
  • Hospital optometry: Mater hospital, Dublin: Glaucoma outpatient clinic optometrist under Prof. Colm O’Brien, 2011-2014
  • Private ophthalmology: Blackrock Clinic, Dublin: Anterior segment pre- and post-operative assessment under Prof. William Power, January – July 2016

I currently maintain my clinical practice by supervising undergraduate optometry clinics in the National Optometry Centre at DIT. I joined the lecturing team in DIT in September 2013, taking up a part-time post, and became a full-time assistant lecturer in September 2017.

In February 2018 I was awarded a PhD for my thesis titled ‘Optometric case finding for glaucoma in Ireland: An investigation of current practice patterns’. This work, supervised by Prof. James Loughman (DIT) and Prof. Colm O’ Brien (Mater hospital), examined optometrists’ current practice patterns for glaucoma detection in Ireland and piloted a new collaborative care pathway, the Dublin Glaucoma Referral Refinement and Monitoring Service (GRRMS).

I hope to further this research in my postdoctoral work by continuing to investigate the roles optometrists can play in providing safe and accessible eye care.
