Jacinta Browne BSc MSc PhD CPhys

Graduated with a BSc (Honours) in Physics and Chemistry from Trinity College Dublin and Dublin Institute of Technology in 1997.

Following graduation she worked in St James's Hospital (MPBE) from 1997 - 1999, during which time received a MSc in "Physical Sciences in Medicine",  graduating in 2000 with a research thesis entitled "Development and evaluation of a quantitative posturography system (QPS)".

The aim of the M.Sc. was to develop, and characterise both technically and clinically a quantitative posturography system. Through this work a number of new test objects and a calibration protocol were devised. This calibration protocol has been recommended by the Association pour le Development et l'Application de la Posturologie for characterizing posturography force platforms.

Dr Browne received her PhD in Medical Physics, from University of Glasgow in 2003 with a research thesis entitled "Diagnostic Ultrasound Real-time and Colour Doppler Imaging Assessed by in-Vivo and In-Vitro Methods", supervised by Prof. Alex T Elliott.

The core aim of the Ph.D. was to investigate the relationship between in-vivo and in-vitro testing of general-purpose ultrasound scanners.

Held a Senior Medical Physicist position in Greater Glasgow University NHS Trust from November 2002 until November 2004.  Jacinta still retains strong collaborative links with the Greater Glasgow University NHS Trust.

Appointed to staff of School of Physics at DIT in November 2004.

Currently (2008 - present) the Radiation Protection Officer for the Dublin Institute of Technology.

Past Chairperson (2009 - present) of the Dublin Institute of Technology Research Ethics Committee.

Member (2006 - present) of the Dublin Institute of Technology Research Ethics Committee.
